Understanding Hair Loss: Causes, Risk Factors, and Treatment Options

Hair loss, or alopecia, is a common concern for both men and women, and it can affect any part of the body. The causes of hair loss vary, from genetics to environmental factors, and it can take several forms, including male and female pattern baldness, alopecia areata, and telogen effluvium. Understanding the underlying factors contributing to hair loss is essential to choosing the most effective treatment.

What Causes Hair Loss?

Hair loss can be caused by a variety of factors, including:

  1. Hormonal Imbalances: One of the most significant contributors to hair loss, particularly in men, is the hormone Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a derivative of testosterone and plays a key role in the development of male pattern baldness. In individuals genetically predisposed to hair loss, DHT shrinks hair follicles, resulting in thinner, weaker hair and eventually leading to hair loss.
  2. Genetics: Androgenic alopecia, also known as male or female pattern baldness, is the most common form of hair loss, and it’s hereditary. This condition typically begins with a receding hairline in men or thinning hair at the crown in women.
  3. Stress: Physical or emotional stress can lead to telogen effluvium, a type of temporary hair loss where hair prematurely enters the shedding phase of the growth cycle.
  4. Nutritional Deficiencies: A lack of essential vitamins and minerals, such as iron, zinc, and biotin, can contribute to hair thinning and loss.
  5. Autoimmune Disorders: Conditions like Alopecia Areata cause the body’s immune system to attack hair follicles, leading to patchy hair loss.
  6. Medical Conditions and Medications: Health conditions like thyroid disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and certain medications can also contribute to hair loss.

Role of DHT in hair loss

As mentioned, Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) plays a central role in hair loss, particularly in male and female pattern baldness. DHT binds to hair follicles, causing them to shrink and eventually stop producing new hair. This results in thinning hair, receding hairlines, and, over time, hair loss in the affected areas.

At our clinic, we offer specialized treatments to reduce DHT levels and encourage healthy hair regrowth, such as Dutexome, a medication designed to inhibit the production of DHT and protect hair follicles from its harmful effects.  It also contains vitamins, containing a unique combination of exosomes, dutasteride 0.05%, copper tripeptide, biotin and other B vitamins specifically formulated to control hair loss. .

Treating Alopecia Anywhere on the Body

Alopecia can occur anywhere on the body, and we offer treatments tailored to your specific needs, whether you're dealing with hair loss on the scalp, eyebrows, or other areas.

For scalp alopecia, we offer a variety of advanced treatments that can stimulate hair growth and restore a fuller, thicker appearance. For other areas of the body, like eyebrows or facial hair, we have specialized solutions to help promote hair regrowth and improve the aesthetic outcome.

Our Hair Loss Treatments

We offer a variety of advanced treatments, both in-clinic and as part of our home care range, to combat hair loss and encourage new growth. We believe in a holistic approach.

  1. PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Injections: PRP therapy is a highly effective, non-surgical treatment that uses your own blood’s growth factors to stimulate hair follicles and promote hair regrowth. The process involves drawing a small amount of blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting the PRP directly into the scalp or affected area. PRP promotes hair growth by revitalizing hair follicles and increasing the circulation of nutrients to the hair follicles.
  2. Micro-needling for Hair Growth:  This treatment can be combined with hair growth serums. These contain active ingredients to nourish and stimulate hair follicles. These treatments help improve scalp health, reduce hair loss, and boost hair regrowth, including Dutexome, to help reduce DHT levels and stimulate hair follicles for regrowth.
  3. Dutexome: As mentioned earlier, Dutexome is a potent DHT blocker that can be used in conjunction with other treatments.  Packed with vitamins, containing a unique combination of exosomes, dutasteride 0.05%, copper tripeptide, biotin and other B vitamins specifically formulated to control hair loss. It reduces the appearance of hair loss, increases hair strength and density and improves scalp hydration.
